Jake's eyes slid open slowly, his head turning to look out the window. A faint light was glimering over the horizon. The world was silver, fresh, new. The clock read 5:30 a.m. The boy smiled, swung his legs out of bed and stood up. In a few minutes he was dressed, fully awake and alert. His room was small but comfortable. It had two windows overlooking the ranch. Furniture included his single sized bed, a trunk, a small 4 drawer dresser, a desk, and a chair. Across the hall was a bathroom, and next door slep Rachel. They shared a closet.
Jake opened the door to the closet and passed through the previously hung rows of clothes. When he got to the other side his fist rapped at Rachel's door. A groan from inside told him she had heard him.
He went down the stairs into the large kitchen and made a quick breakfast. Two slices of bread and butter, a salted hard boiled egg, and an apple. Jake always had at least 3 things from the food pyramid for breakfast since he was 6. It was a habit.

Rachel turned over in her bed and groaned again. She hated the mornings. But, she had to get up didn't she? Forcing her eyes open she looked over at the clock. 5:40 a.m! Her room was similar to Jake's. She had two windows like his did, a single bed, a trunk, a desk, and a dresser. Instead of a chair she had a couch.
After she had showered, dressed, and put her hair into a tight bun she stumbled down the steps into the kitchen. A grumbled Good morning to Jake and she started to make breakfast. Oatmeal, milk, and a bunch of grapes.

The two siblings were alike in many ways. Yet they were also opposites of each other. For instance: Jake was a morning person. He worked best then. He hated evenings. Often he was tired and easily angered. Rachel was NOT a morning person. She didn't really wake up till 10. However, she loved evenings. She worked best then. They both talked very little, kept to themselves, and shared a love for horses. Jake liked cats, tolerated dogs. Rachel liked dogs, tolerated cats.
Rachel looked sleepily out the window. "What do wave to do today?" she asked. jake tossed her a peice of paper. It had a list of jobs. He had made it yesterday. Rachel looked it over. Mucking, excersing horses, moving them to stalls, paddocks, pasture. A bit of painting, cleaning the tack. It wasn't bad.
ooc: The following is a conversation between them. It goes from Rachel to jake, Rachel to Jake. I don't want to post and he said, she replied, he asked etc...~
"So, what do you think of this place?" "I like it I guess, sorta lonely though." "Probably because we don't know anyone. I like it too." "What about our 'employer?' or the other people?" "I don't know about him. He seems nice. I like April though. I think she has a sister or something but I haven't seen her."

"April!"Jessica yelled running down onto the main floor"Your dog is chasing me!"Right after her Shiloh leaped down from the bottom step and nipped at her socks"Ew, get him off!"She pleaded running into the living room and jumping onto a couch. April ran down stairs with hey pajama's on and a towel wrapped around her wet hair. "Jessica calm down, Jeez"She said and picked up Shiloh"He's just a puppy, he can't hurt you"She spoke shiloh licking her face. April whipped the slober from her cheek and Jessica got up"Im sorry April, about everything, latley i have been such a jerk, i think it is couse mom died"She said and APril put Shiloh down and hugged her"It's alright Jess, You could not have saved her"She said in a sweet tone. And walked back up stair, when she got to the top step she whistled"Shiloh!"She hollared and the puppy bounded up the stairs.

Rachel jerked her head up suddenly at the comotion. Jake ignored it and kept eating. She looked at him with an expression of, 'what was that all about'. He shrugged and stood up, put his plate in the sink, Rachel following behind him. They went into the living room and saw Jessica, or at least they thought it was.

the alarm clock was blaring. BEEP BEEP BEEP. if there was one thing Alex hated it was alarm clocks. she groaned as she rolled over and pressed the necessary button to make the annoying beeping stop. she stretched and sat up. a new day. Alex was a well rounded person and her internal clock was set for 5:30, meaning that she usually woke up without the alarm clock but today was different. Last night she was at the breeding farm until 1 in the morning for a number of new horses had arrived! she was so excited about the breeding farm she was running. what a day she will have!
Alex stumbled over to her closet and grabbed two towels and her bath robe. less than 4 hours of sleep didn't fair well with her, a nice hot shower would be perfect. she exited her room and made her way to the bath room. 15 minutes later Alex walked back into her room wearing a bathrobe and a towel around her hair. it took her another 20 minutes to get ready to leave. she dried her hair, straightened her platnuim blond hair, put on liquid eyeliner and a little lip gloss. she was wearing a pair of old plaid breeches and a equine Canada shirt. on her way out the door she grabbed her favorite sweater (from first to last), opened the door and headed for the kitchen.
as she reached the kitchen she yawed, man was she tired. she went to the cupboard and took out a box of special k. her morning ritual, a bowl of special k with skim milk and a glass of orange juice. she took her food and sat at the table. she had plenty of time, the horses weren't fed until 7. she liked having plenty of time in the morning to relax, it made the day much easier. she grabbed a copy of Horse and Pony and red while she ate.

Jake had finished his work in the Stable and now sat in the kitchen with a hefty text-book and pen. He looked over the edge of the book when Alex came in, but returned to it momentarily. Now and them a sound of annoyance escaped him, but otherwise remained silint.

Alex wasnt stupid, some mistaked her to be because of her very blonde hair, and she could take a hint. She stood and walked over to the sink, she wasnt quite done her breakfast but had enough of the disgruntled noises comming from Jake. She couldnt take that this early in the morning so she decided she mine as well get an early start to the barn. One of the new horses is a filly and the moment she saw her she fell in love. Nice project untill she was sold, or maybe alex would buy her herself.
she relized she had left her copy of horse and pony on the table and walked back to retrive it. she snuck a sideways glance at Jake and headed out of the room.

Jake closed the book with a slam and stood up. He hated Algebra. Before he went out the door he looked at Alex, waved slightly, then walked towards the barn for tack.
